The first Cardio Club was born on 4 Court Street. It was, and still is, Melissa’s passion to work with people and help them become stronger and healthier. With a Parks and Recreation Management Degree from SUNY DELHI, Melissa soon established a full fledge health club. Classes and Personal training were a natural progression. Certifications from all aspects of the latest fitness craze kept the upbeat vibe and energy levels soaring. The Cardio Club was the first fitness center to be a licensed “SPINNING” facility “Johnny G”.
Wakin-Mostert instructed classes at the Oneonta YMCA, Clarks Gymnasium, and SUNY DELHI. Teaching and training included everything from kickboxing, the “slide”, step, spinning, power walking, and boot camp to name a few.
Among other fitness adventures, Melissa has traveled to many schools working with children and fitness, conducted health related seminars with various companies for employee health and wellness, traveled to senior centers ,worked with the local ARC etc.
Having completed 10 marathons she is also a guide for many people completing their very first. Melissa has helped hundreds of people obtain their fitness goals no matter what they may be. Currently Melissa is a NPC figure competitor competing in NYC, Atlantic City, etc. Even Melissa keeps making goals a reality. Residing here in Delhi with her husband Steve and two children she has passed on the Cardio Club but still remains part of the original heart beat that started the vision of providing a way for people to achieve their fitness goals. Melissa continues mostly with one on one personal training, helping people see it, believe it and most importantly to achieve it. From Melissas Mouth to your ears “The hardest thing is taking that first step into the gym, the next hardest thing is believing you belong there, the best thing is seeing everyone else who makes the gym, we all made the first step. What are you waiting for? Do it for you!”
Victoria Lundell
Victoria Lundell is originally from Michigan where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance at the University of Michigan in 1989. After professionally dancing in the Detroit area for several years she then moved to New York City and continued her performing career with the internationally acclaimed Parsons Dance Company, where she also taught workshops and set Mr. Parsons’ works on colleges and conservatories throughout the U.S., Asia and Europe, including the Juilliard School and the Paris Opera Ballet.
In 1994 she began dancing with the prestigious Mark Morris Dance Group, performing frequently at New York City’s Lincoln Center, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Zellerbach Theatre in Berkeley, CA, and also in Tel-Aviv, Istanbul and Hong Kong, to name a few. She has had the pleasure of performing both on stage and on film with cellist Yo-Yo Ma in “Falling Down Stairs,” a collaboration between Mr. Ma and Mr. Morris of the music of J.S. Bach’s Third Cello Suites.
Upon retiring from the road, Ms. Lundell pursued studies in anatomy, body analysis and body conditioning with Irene Dowd and Susanna Weiss, and began working privately with clients in NYC on personal fitness. She also began integrating hatha yoga into her work from her studies of B.K.S. Iyengar and Bikram Choudhury, while continuing a part-time free-lance dance career in NYC with several independent choreographers.
Vicky’s more permanent transition from New York City to this beautiful Catskill region is very exciting for her as she hopes to share the discipline and spirit of theatre dance for its breadth of artistic and cultural understanding and musical education. She also wants to share her heartfelt belief that the path to better health can begin with increased awareness of one’s own body, mindful practice, and a community intent upon the continued discovery of such well-being.
